KARINA RICKS most recently served as the Director of Pittsburgh’s Department of Mobility and Infrastructure. Brought to the city in 2017 to establish the new department, Karina also quickly established the guiding principles for the department: safety, affordable transportation, access to the needs of daily life, joyful and sustainable travel, and a quality public realm. Karina’s work is driven by the knowledge that transportation mobility is the keystone of economic mobility. Throughout her professional career she has worked to promote mobility justice for people across the United States and internationally. Prior to moving to Pittsburgh, Karina founded the MidAtlantic office of NelsonNygaard Consulting Associates after serving as the Director of Transportation Planning for the City of Washington, DC. A Fulbright Scholar and Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, Karina now resides in Pittsburgh with her husband and two children. She has recently been named to serve in the Federal Transportation Authority.

This lecture is a part of the David Lewis Lecture on Urban Design and Social Equity series, a project of the Remaking Cities Institute.
