The Frontenac Arch Biosphere region is part of a broad global network of over 700 UNESCO sites in more than 130 countries. Re-designated in 2007 by the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere programme as Canada’s 12th biosphere region, It encompasses an area of approximately, 2700 sq. km. The Frontenac Arc Biosphere region acknowledges to be situated on the territories of many nations, including the Algonquin, the Anishinaabe, the Haudenosaunee, Huron-Wendat, Highland Water Métis, Shabot Obaadjiwan First Nation, and Ardoch First Nation.

The Frontenac Arch Biosphere is administered by the Frontenac Arch Biosphere Network – a not-for-profit organization consisting of a small team of dedicated staff and a broader network of organizations and local communities working together to promote the sustainable development of the region.
