The story of Jaishree from unpaid breadwinner to dignified pattern maker

This story is about a woman, a daughter of MasterG, who transformed her unpaid labor into a sustainable livelihood with the support of Sterlite Technology Foundation’s CSR initiative, Jeewan Jyoti, and MasterG’s apparel skill development program.

All her adult life, Jaishree had unpaid jobs. First, as a caregiver to her partially incapacitated husband and children. Second, as an unskilled seamstress with a responsibility to financially support her family. Jaishree comes from a small village with no formal education in stitching, she faced many problems in earning a dignified livelihood. However, in 2021, Jaishree’s life was transformed when MasterG introduced the apparel skill development program at Sterlite’s training center in Ambavane, Pune. MasterG has enabled Jaishree by upskilling her pattern-making skills, which helped her to capitalize and earn a livelihood for herself and her family.

MasterG is empowering daughters of India to have one less unpaid full-time job because with livelihood comes dignity and less invisibility.

As per Time Use Survey, NSO, 2019, 81.2% of women were engaged in unpaid domestic work.
