Dynamic microglia – FESCH.TV

Dynamic microglia & FESCH.TV:

Introducing a label-free capture of bit.bio’s ioMicroglia, revealing incredibly dynamic cells with a lot of personality! In this single 1h45 capture, there is so much to see that we have highlighted two interesting events.

First, we see a microglia cell engulfing an apoptotic cell. Microglia are macrophage cells that help to maintain the central nervous system, recycling dead cells and debris, just like we can see here.

Second, an example of just how dynamic the microglia morphology can be. This cell rapidly increases its surface area, and spreads out its plasma membrane to become a completely different shape.

Being able to view the functionality and morphology of microglia in this fashion can be used to monitor their activation state. This is the very first video of ioMicroglia that bit.bio have captured with their Nanolive CX-A imaging platform.

Images were captured once every 3m12sec for 1 hour 43 minutes
