DAVID KOMA PRE-FALL 21 | Behind The Scenes – FESCH.TV

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

In the era of the unprecedented distance between the revelry and reality, fashion continues to spark joy and ignite imagination. Stranded between fashion fantasy and the lust for comfort, David Koma explores the ways both newness and traditions look in 2021.

The first-ever David Koma Pre-Fall collection turns to the British Royalty for the inspiration. The sophistication of traditional equestrian style and its associations with HRH Elizabeth II, along with the ease and impressive longevity of Lady Diana’s personal style, inform the collection.

This season David Koma uses his signature contrast of strong athleticism and opulent evening wear to tell the story of the Koma Girl in a modern setting.

The designer hones his use of juxtapositions, symbolising the conflict of tradition versus nowness. Structured shapes executed in mirrored scuba wool and sharp handkerchief-sleeves meet fluidly draped satin, luxuriously soft rib knit meets the distinct transparency of tulle. Voluminous taffeta is added to the brand’s fabric offering, in a nod to Lady Diana’s signature look. While the equestrian theme is reflected through Polo top collars and horse-shoe cut-outs in the knitwear and crepe wool.

Couture-esque embellishments, a key component in the designer’s DNA, appear as crystal hardware and tube harnesses; elsewhere geometrically-placed crystals adorn the fabrics. Knit and crystal-embellished oversized logo scarves demonstrate the fusion of opulence with comfort. Leather bags for the first time come embroidered with crystals – to complement the tactile embellishments on sculptured cocktail dresses, that became a David Koma signature.

The collection, designed with a powerful modern woman in mind, is photographed alongside a horse to symbolise the reverberating theme of strength and resilience; so vital in our unprecedented times.
