CRAFT Course: Painting the Stage with Kathy Perkins

In this course, Kathy will explore her inspiration for her designs and explain how her research as a historian and world traveler informs the work creates on the stage. Many of these designs have been inspired by the over 40 countries Kathy has traveled to. Her presentation of the various travel include slave castles along the coast of West Africa as well as sunrises and sunsets in places like Zimbabwe, Ghana, and the Middle East. Making visible the many Black men and women who have worked behind the scenes how have been marginalized throughout history, Kathy is proud to recognize the impact lighting has on the entire visual stage picture.
