Cairns Festival Library 2021

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

SPIRIT ARK BY ARONE MEEKS

Annually, Cairns Festival engages local and national artists to create a large scale projection artwork on the historic Cairns City Library. These artworks
speak to the culture, history and lifestyle of Tropical North Queensland, turning the Cairns City Library into an outdoor gallery of vision, sound and light.

This year the library will be the canvas for Spirit Ark, a new work created by AGB Events in collaboration with renowned artist and local legend, the late Arone Meeks, a Kuku Midigi man, raised in Yarrabah and El Arish, Mission Beach, Far North Queensland, his country being the area around Laura, Cape York.

Spirit Ark is based on Arone’s personal story, as navigated by the stars, the boat being both a symbolic vehicle allowing him to travel to the dreaming whilst making a connection with country, spirit and place. This is a fitting tribute to this man who has given the region so much from his artistic life. Thank you Arone.

AGB Events are specialists in creating innovative experiences and 3D artworks that are responsive to place, audiences and local stories and culture and the team are honoured to have worked with Arone Meeks to bring this project to Cairns Festival 2021.
