Conversational Series – Space Tourism

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

Every time we get a spare moment here at Clickmark we seem to end up having great conversations. We’ve been wanting to share those conversations with our community for a long time now, and we’ve finally gotten around to filming the first segment of our conversational video blog.

For our first topic, we’ve chosen an issue that has been in the news a lot recently… Space. With the dramatic increase in space tourism, it seems like we may be entering a new era of space exploration. This is very exciting but it raises several issues and the details about the future of the space industry are still very much uncertain.

The first topic we cover is safety. “How safe is spaceflight?” “Who sets the safety guidelines for the space industry?” “Do the Non-Astronaut tourists really understand the risks?”

We also discuss the differences in the different programs. Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin rocket provides a very different experience than Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic, and an even more extreme experience is available for the first time using a Russian rocket to actually live aboard the International Space Station. What are the pros and cons of each experience and how does this variety of technology fit into the future of space travel?

Most people would likely agree that taking a trip to space would be an exciting experience, but are there deeper socio-political ramifications to more and more humans having access to space? What does it mean for the continuing struggle against climate change when some individuals may be able to leave the planet permanently in the near future?

How will the various resources in space be controlled? What are the laws that determine issues like the ownership of the moon? Who enforces these laws and how will disputes be settled?

Is migrating to other planets a viable option if climate change makes the earth uninhabitable?
What technology is being developed to allow humans to live on the moon or Mars, and can this technology be used to improve our lives on earth?

How will the burgeoning space industry affect the job market of the future? Should young people be making career plans expecting high demand for space pilots?

What about extraterrestrial life? Is the mystery of alien life the driving force behind the interest in space travel? How likely is it that there is extraterrestrial life in our solar system? If we encounter extraterrestrial life, what dangers could it pose to life on earth?

We discuss all these issues and many more in this first episode. We would love for you to join us for this discussion and we would love to hear your thoughts on these issues as well. Please check out our video and leave a comment.
We have many topics that we are excited to talk about, but we would also like to hear about your interests and what topics you would like us to cover in future episodes.
