CLOUD MOUNTAINS | Tania Haberland & Poetics of Reverie

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

„Cloud Mountains“ a poem by Tania Haberland

The cloud mountains above the Mediterranean sea remind me of the endless land of Africa. That vast expanse of space can only be equalled by the sky in Europe.
If I allow my gaze to wander far up above, beyond the buildings and streets carved into cities falling in upon themselves, I can remember the openness of where I was born.
And the setting sun echoes the bright orange red of the southern hemisphere.
I travel through my eyes and mind to distant places and time and space pulled by a melancholic beat in my heart. I have read of the mal d’Afrique, and now I feel it roaring in my blood, like the dusking day not wanting to go gentle into that good night
I rage against the dying of the light
As European winter wets my soul, dampening my home-ache to a dull thud of discontent I know I need to accept this new adopted home. But something inside howls like the wind
And laments like storm clouds puffing messages of sad mad feelings
as they blow across the waters
The sea and the sky are darkening as the sun disappears
drop by drop
turning the fiery heavens into the insipid bon-bon peach hue of desperate faux-Tuscan walls in
Johannesburg suburbs. That I do not miss.
