City of the Deads – Mitla, Oaxaca. México.

Founded by the Zapotec culture with the name of Lyobaa (Place of rest), later it was inhabited by the Mixtec culture, they called it Ñuu Ndiyi (Place of the dead), when the Aztecs conquered the city, they called it Mitla which comes from the word Mictlán and means Place of the Dead.

After the conquest of Mexico, the Spaniards built a church on the site and used some of the original buildings as stables or courtyards.

Fundada por la cultura Zapoteca con el nombre de Lyobaa (Lugar de descanso), después fue habitada por la cultura Mixteca, la llamaron Ñuu Ndiyi (Lugar de muertos), cuando los Aztecas conquistaron la ciudad, la llamaron Mitla que proviene de la palabra Mictlán y significa Lugar de Muertos.

Después de la conquista de México, los españoles construyeron una iglesia en el lugar y utilizaron algunas edificaciones originales como caballerizas o patios.
