Christian Wiggans | Paramedics: Beyond Pre-Hospital Practice

Christian Wiggin is a UK Paramedic with 20 years experience working across a range of roles including Minor Injuries and Illness, Expedition Medicine, Hazardous Area Response Medicine and Critical Care. For the last 8 years Christian has been a Critical Care Paramedic working with Air Ambulances primarily in the South West of the UK as well as acting as an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons on their Diploma in Immediate medical Care programme. In 2019 Christian was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to travel to Australasia to explore Paramedic Pre-Hospital Critical Care Systems.Christian has worked extensively with the College of Paramedics designing and implementing a Pre-Hospital Critical Care Paramedic Career pathway and acts as the Colleges representative as the chair of the newly formed International Critical Care Group. Christian has spent the last 2 1/2 years exploring a dual role of CCP practice, combining pre-hospital with in-hospital practice. Initially he was enrolled on a Royal College of Emergency Medicine Advanced Clinical Practioner programme training to work on the medical rota in a busy major trauma centre before converting to a Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine training programme, working primarily in Intensive Care Units. He currently spends 25% of his time on pre-hospital critical care helicopters and 75% training in ICU.
