Channel Changer & FESCH.TV:

“I know it sounds mental, but sometimes I have more fun vegging out than when I go partying. Maybe because my party clothes are so binding.” -Cher Horowitz

In JRAT’s latest collection, Channel Changer (I was 13 before I realized cows aren’t blurry), artist and design Janelle Abbott crafts a clashing and ruckus vision lingering somewhere between nightmare and dream. A scrappy, unapologetic, and plaid obsessed collection, Abbott pulls inspiration from iconic mid-90s media like Frasier and Clueless to manifest a hybrid of the inside and outside, the known and unknown, the real and imagined.

…you’re all dressed up to go out on a Friday night, but instead you fall asleep watching TV. Now it’s 3AM and you wake up from a slurry of incantations that are often blurry and hard to follow. A clamorous mash of interwoven narratives—snippets stolen from what was streaming across the screen—they flicker on repeat in your semi-conscious state like vague footage from an alternate reality.

For Channel Changer’s Bumbershoot debut, Abbott has teamed up with choreographer Alzya DelPan-Monley and sound artist Keyes Wiley (DJ Dark Wiley) to bring this collection to life through dance and sound. A cast of 10 revenant ghouls wade through the Fashion District indulging in the sheer delight of their liminal occupation.

Channel Changer is exclusively crafted from found, reclaimed, and deadstock materials. Each piece is one of a kind, hand dyed and painted, woven, knit, and/or stitched—all in alignment with the zero waste methodology.
