CATHY EDIT 07.08.21-2.mp4

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

A period docu/drama short story inspired from a Victorian photograph which was found in the collection of the Tullie House museum in Carlisle.

Cathy, follows the story of a 10 year old young girl, who, like many others her age after leaving school was forced to travel to and seek employment in service at the local quarterly Carlisle hiring fair. Often resulting in the young child regularly sending money home, whilst not seeing their parents or family again for many years.

An uplifting story which highlights the positive changing attitudes of middle class Victorian society towards the lower classes.
In Cathy’s case a household run by an outspoken professional doctors wife, a staunch supporter of the suffrage movement, her husband using his influence, finances and educated background to champion the campaign for better sanitation for the poorer classes.

Delving into his extensive prior researched knowledge of lower class Victorian society, the director penned the script over a 24 hour period on October 30th 2020, and had the entire film cast within one week.
Had it not been for the December 2020 lockdowns the film would have been shot and completed in January of 2021.
Instead, using the filming loophole which allowed the production to go ahead legally, Cathy was shot over 2 days on location in Carlisle in the exact spot the photograph was taken during the Easter break lockdown of 2021, and over 1 very long day in Cornwall in November 2020 during the many local lockdowns.
