Calming fail 10 Aug 2021 FILE0281

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

SPEEDING IS SO EASY: It is simplicity itself for speeding drivers to ignore the Springholm traffic calming. This eastbound car driver is treating it as a 50 limit. Many do an night. Some, including several rogue HGVs drivers, have been filmed treating it as a 60 limit i.e. the same as outside the village except that the Scottish Government would have us believe they are serious about upholding an HGV class limit of 40mph. That is simply not true and almost every HGV driver proves that all along the A75. It would be an improvement to our street if all HGV drivers even stuck to their class speed limit let alone 30. Many cannot even bring themselves do that much at night here. We can find NONE that stick to 30mph or below throughout the village, even among car driver that, it seems, taxes driver patience too much along a 1300M built up street. The majority slow down too late going inside the village and speed up far too early departing. So they expose several hundred metres to very harmful collision speeds for the vulnerable. We blame the lack of SiDs near the gateways and, most seriously, the failure to install hard engineered calming there as they have in Crocketford. We need a lower speed limit and then a bypass. Both are overdue. Meantime this is a highly dangerous traffic flow for a residential street. Most residents rightly stay clear of the traffic and are very sparing of their use of the pavements and almost none cycle. For those street frontage home occupants without even a pavement active travel is even more unappealing in these circumstances. The neglect of safety of the vulnerable here has been atrocious.
