BEST OF: Juli

This band was formed under the name ‚Sunnyglade‘ in 1996. Founding members were Andreas ‚Dedi‘ Herde (bass), Martin Möller (drums), Jonas Pfetzing (guitar) and Simon Triebel (guitar & vocals). Soon Miriam Adameit joined the band as singer. They recorded an album called ‚Pictures Of My Mind‘ in 1998. Adameit and Möller then left the group and were replaced by Eva Briegel (vocals) and Marcel Römer (drums). This line-up has not changed since then. They won the ‚Hessischer Rockpreis‘ in 2000 and finished second in the ‚Deutscher Pop-Preis‘ contest.

After they signed their record deal and started working with producer Lutz Fahrenkrog-Petersen they switched to German lyrics and took on the name ‚Juli‘, inspired by a song from a German band called ‚Tex‘. In June 2004 they released the single ‚Perfekte Welle‘ (perfect wave). After a slow start the song entered the German Top Ten and peaked at #2. However after the horrible natural disaster in Asia with earthquake and the tsunami German radio station did no longer play the song due to its lyrics. Their debut album ‚Es ist Juli‘ (It’s July / or Juli for the band name) also peaked at #2 while another single ‚Geile Zeit‘ (great times) reached the Top 20 in Germany.

In 2005 the band won the Bundesvision Song Contest hosted by Stefan Raab for their state Hessen. In 2006 they released their second studio album ‚Ein neuer Tag‘ (a new day) which topped the German album charts. The single ‚Dieses Leben‘ (this life) became the bands 2nd Top 10 single, peaking at #5 in Germany. They then won the ‚Bambi‘ for ‚music national‘ and the ‚Eins Live Krone‘ Germany’s most important radio listener award.

In 2010 they released their 3rd studio album ‚In Love‘. It peaked at #4 in the German album charts and the single ‚Elektrisches Gefühl‘ (electric feeling) became the bands 5th Top 20 single.

In 2014 their 4th studio album ‚Insel‘ (Island) was released and peaked at #10 in Germany.
