Artist Peer Grou: February 2022 – FESCH.TV

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

Our February virtual artist peer group was an opportunity to hear from two artists about their practice. Our peer groups provide the space for artists to share active ideas, projects and challenges, with peer support from audience participants. Each artist has approximately 35mins to share works and receive feedback.

This month we have artists Chris Harder and Hanna Slattne sharing works and ideas.

Chris Harder is an abstract and figurative silk screen printer, painter and sculptor. She has also worked in film, advertising film and fashion photography and as a mould maker and casting technician at Fine Art Bronze Foundry in Fulham, London. Chris obtained her degree in Fine Art Sculpture from Central St. Martin’s College of Art and her work has been represented by Michael Heath Gallery in Palm Springs, USA.

For this peer-to-peer session Chris says:

I am currently building a body of work where I explore emotions related to the idea of being in a „Safe Space“. „Safe Space“ really is 3 things.

A safe space for my head/mind/body to reside in.

A physical space to conduct „art therapy based“ painting workshops in a safe (as I understand it) environment.

A feature/element/subject in my paintings.

To make the invisible visible and tangible through making artwork is my intention as an artist. I want to unpeel layers. There are no references to portray emotion. I am authentic to my inner landscape. The tactile experience is a vital component. The speed of the brushstroke and the viscosity of the paint. Choreography and Rhythm. The feel of the material and the physicality of its weight. Being present with the moment. Being in the body. The act of making work inspires a new experience, connects with something elemental. The viewer’s experience interests me and rewards me. I am drawn to vast spaces in nature. Empty buildings. Silence nourishes and informs me.

Hanna Slattne works in immersive audio, performance and XR as an artist and as a dramaturg for theatre, dance and digital projects. She is currently undertaking a practice based PhD. She is based in Northern Ireland and works across the UK and Ireland.

Hanna has developed a project over 3 years creating immersive audio stories and practice exercises for people living with Parkinson’s disease. The project is in response to recent research into the benefits of working with motor imagery for people experiencing mobility issues with their PD. Hanna is now looking for support to consider ways to present this non-conventional arts & health project, to health care professionals open to alternative approaches. The work has been developed within a PhD program, however, it is a passion project of Hanna’s based on personal experience.
