Anadromous Now presents…

Art Lingren- The Artistry of Angling

Arthur James Lingren is a fly fishing historian born in Vancouver on January 5th, 1943 near the banks of the Fraser River. In the last 40 years he has written and collaborated on over 16 books about fly fishing and angling in B.C., and he has cultivated a long list of friends along the way. Through over four decades of writing, fishing, and fly tying, Art continues to demonstrates that fly fishing is ultimately about creativity, collaboration, and camaraderie as much as it is about catching fish on a fly. Fly fishing is a celebration of friends, nature, and passions that bring people together.

In 2019 I started documenting Art’s work in his basement studio (and historical fly fishing museum), getting a behind-the-scenes glimpse of his daily process. He creates very limited edition copies and a few hard cover books of each publication. Most of the flies and books that Art creates are bought by collectors, invested in university libraries, or donated to raise money for local Salmon and Steelhead conservation groups. The highest craft in fly fishing for Art is dressing Steelhead flies in the fashion of Atlantic salmon flies. These flies are painstakingly tied and mounted into books and onto personalized cards.

Special thanks are due to Art and his family for inviting me into his home and working with me to articulate the true nature of fly fishing and how anglers craft nature to form story. Follow his story:

Huge shout out to Jim Gebhart and On The Fly Magazine, without who’s generous support for Anadromous Now, this project never would have started! Subscribe to the free online fly fishing magazine for more angling artistry.

Andre Stepanian and his Frenzyflies have been there since anadromous one. Thanks again for your teaching and understanding the true nature of fly fishing and what it means to have the heart of an artist.

Partridge of Redditch provided Anadromous Now with the ability to fashion the most beautiful flies to the most beautiful hooks in the world,
