This short film is about being able to wear what you want as a woman. It is about expressing yourself as YOU want. For me ‘What it means to be a woman today?’ means being able to wear what you want. Fashion should be a form of expression and no one should be discriminated against or judge for wearing what they want to wear. Whether you are covered up from head to toe or wearing the smallest piece of clothing ever. My view is that you should have the right to decide what you want to wear, and you shouldn’t feel judged or objectified just for expressing yourself. As Florence Given said in Women don’t owe you Pretty: “Different things empower different people – there is no one way to be a woman. Women are multi-faceted human beings capable of being more than one thing at one time.” This is why the editorial piece displays three different looks; depicting three different styles. The idea is to show that it is okay to be your authentic self. Looking into my perception of what it means to be a woman today. In my own experience, when I put something on and start to hesitate, to even doubt what I am wearing, I have to stop myself from hearing these internalised misogynistic thoughts and allow myself to express myself. At the end of the day, it’s my body, not yours!
