AH-TRIP Showcase 2021 – Amber Jones, Occupational Therapy, Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital.

RBWH provides a state-wide specialist burns service to over 1,000 individuals annually, 81% of whom reside outside the Metro North area & hence travel to RBWH for ongoing post burn care. Patients are financially & socially disadvantaged by this model of care, & the annual health service cost for subsidised patient travel to attend the burns clinic is approximately $400,000. We aimed to address these challenges in two phases: 1) Pre-implementation exploration of patients & clinicians views towards the implementation of an Allied Health TeleBurns Service (using the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research), & 2) Implementing & evaluating the Allied Health TeleBurns Service (using the RE-AIM framework). The RBWH Allied Health TeleBurns service was successfully implemented, with 623 consults attended in the first 20 months. An estimated travel distance of 522,197km was avoided, saving $147,097 in subsidised travel expenses. High levels of satisfaction were reported by both patients & clinicians.
