A Glimpse to the Future.mp4

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

1. A short synopsis of the plot of your photo-roman.
It’s 1972 and Jadyn is running late to class, but on her way out she gets hit with a beach ball and gets knocked out. When she wakes up, her world has changed around her. She is no longer in 1972 but is in 2022! 50 years into the future! Jadyn then meets Claire and Bengi who show her what it’s like in the 21st century by introducing technology like the phone and AirPods. Jadyn being now aware of this alters the timeline and things start to disappear from this new world. Miraculously, Jadyn gets hit with the ball again and returns safely back to 1972. But, will her knowledge of the future effect the past too?

2. How does your character cause effects in this film? Are there any hidden causes or effects?
The main character, Jadyn, effects the timeline by being transported into the future. When she gains the knowledge that she is in 2022 and that things have changed and evolved, her being conscious of these things messes with the timeline as she isn’t supposed to know. Leading to the disappearance of her new friends and other things from the future. Once she travels back to her time, she still carries the knowledge with her, thinking it was a dream when in reality, it wasn’t, ultimately continuing the messed up timeline of both the future and the past as seen at the end of the film when the table from the future shows up to the past where the man’s computer and AirPods don’t belong.

3. How does a non-diegetic visual element change our understanding of the narrative?
The text before the title saying „#1 Rule to Time Travel: NEVER alter the timeline! Or thing will get weird“ helps the viewer understand that time travel is delicate and tricky. As the story goes along, weird things happen, but we know from the text that it’s because something was altered in the timeline. Also, at the end when Jadyn thinks to herself, „I hope it was all a dream“ and then the table with the guy reappears with the the text saying „Unless…“, we can infer that it was not a dream to Jadyn and the weird things with will still continue to happen since her understanding of the 21st century.

4. How did you meaningfully rearrange the plot’s temporal order?
I rearranged the temporal plot with Jadyn originally coming from the past by making the photos black and white with a film-like filter and then had her travel to the future with the pictures now being saturated and clear to indicate the jump. And then I put the photos back into black and white to indicate that Jadyn had jumped back again.

5. How does your film demonstrably move from restricted to unrestricted narration? Why did you do this?
The film moves from restricted to unrestricted narration from the ending where the title says „Unless“ and the table from before appears after Jadyn continues to walk to class and thought her traveling to the future was a dream. She does not know that this is happening while we do.
