Buenos Aires City (OF REPAIR) – FESCH.TV

Buenos Aires City (OF REPAIR) & FESCH.TV:

Argentina, Buenos Aires City, is a notable example of sustainable practices in the fashion industry. The country has embraced a unique approach to sustainability through its clothing repair shops and their prevalence and amount in each neighbourhood. These shops play a crucial role in reducing textile waste, extending the lifespan of clothing items, and, at the same time, creating a sense of community among the citizens.

The documentary aims to explore the significance of collectivism as a value and how it relates to the concept of responsibility within sustainable fashion. It uncovers the sustainable values nurtured within Buenos Aires‘ diverse neighbourhoods in summary. It focuses on the profound relationships between clothing repair shop owners, distinctive workspaces often melded with their homes, and enduring connections with loyal customers. Much like the philosophical concept of responsibility by Levinas (1961), where the human ethical duty is to care for and respond to the ‚Other‘, these artisans embody this principle in their daily work.

In addition, the short film process was hard because, due to the absence of a budget, I did all the film on my own. Nevertheless, it was gratifying as part of my personal and academic growth.
