Generic destinations on EPS provide you with the flexibility to configure and group your specific, operational destinations (plants, stockpiles, and dumps) in a hierarchy. Defining the hierarchy allows the advanced scheduling and optimisation tool (EPSolver) to use the most appropriate specific, child destination(s) depending on the travel distances, destination availabilities and scheduling calendars.

Generic resources can also be configured on EPS and replaced by specific resource closer to the time when the actual resources are needed. Think of a classic case where you would run the long-term plan using a shovel as a generic resource and replacing it with a specific shovel at a point in time when it is clear which actual shovel will be used on the short-term plan (based on availabilities, utilisations, and travel distances).
