Jesus starts off his ministry in spectacular fashion in Mark’s gospel, with an exorcism right in the middle of a synagogue service because Jesus had the divine freedom to do what was needed in the moment to give that man his freedom. What Mark was saying is that Jesus Christ has divine authority, and at the center of Christ’s authority is love. The task for us is to take stock and see if there is any part of our lives that is being held back from Christ’s authority, and submit it to Christ as an offering of love. Our Scripture passage is Mark 1:21-28.
